Reuben is an AMTD Global Talent Postdoctoral Fellow

at the University of Waterloo

2022 — 2024

I am a poet, sound artist, screenwriter, and an early career researcher who has been developing a wide research and teaching profile focused on contemporary Anglophone (world) and Indigenous North American fiction, the energy humanities, critical infrastructure studies, sound studies, film and media studies, climate justice, and resource extraction conflicts.

I have previously worked as a visiting researcher at UCLA with environmental humanities field leader Ursula Heise, and I am now working with Imre Szeman, who is the Founding Director of the Institute for Environment, Conservation and Sustainability at the University of Toronto, and founding scholar of the energy humanities.

As an educator, I strongly believe that representation matters both on syllabi and in the classroom. To create an inclusive and welcoming environment, I am committed to promoting diversity by incorporating works by people of colour and Indigenous authors that address a range of sexualities and genders.

By doing so, I hope to expose my students to a variety of perspectives and experiences, challenge dominant narratives, and promote empathy and understanding. I believe that the classroom should be a safe space where students feel comfortable sharing their thoughts and opinions, and where they can learn from their peers' experiences and perspectives.

I am dedicated to continuously learning and growing as an educator and incorporating new and diverse voices into my teaching practice. I believe that by doing so, I can help foster an environment that encourages intellectual curiosity, critical thinking, and respect for all.
